DD is 13 and would like to start wearing a bit of makeup. I took her to Target yesterday, and she was really overwhelmed. I was too - especially since Target redid their makeup section and doesn't carry all the major brands, etc.
She was able to pick out a mascara. Whew! She wanted to buy lip gloss, but was super confused about the options - which actually seemed more limited than I expected. I couldn't offer much help, as I don't know what "lip oil" is, etc. Obviously, I'm in a makeup rut myself, and I have not stayed on top of makeup technology. What do 13 year olds wear for lip color? Brand? She doesn't want old lady makeup or You Tube Beauty expert makeup. She has fair skin and wants a natural look. Just enough to make her feel a little cool/more grown up. We're going to try a CVS, but I'm hopeful someone here can share what their daughter likes. She has two friends and neither wear makeup, so no one she can ask. Thank you! |
| Clinique is reasonable and low key looking, OP. |
| get her some tarte lip glosses at ULTA or Sephora. A little blush from them is good, too. Maybe some mascara. Good place to start. |

This is OP. I'm happy to take her to Ulta. She already bought mascara, and is just looking for lip stuff. She doesn't want anything too shiny.
She is using her own money and wants drug store priced products, so Wet N Wild or L'Oreal or whatever. She has a hard time with decisions, and she's looking for some suggestions for specific products. |
| Burts Bees tinted lip balm |

I loved Bonne Bell Lip Smackers at that age. My friends and I used to collect them and carry them all around in our backpacks. The peach one was my favorite flavor, and it had a bit of a natural tint to it.
Not sure if they still make those. |
| My DD liked Maybelline "BabyLips" moisturizing lip balm at that age. Some of the tints are pretty subtle. |

Go to Walgreens or CVS to get the brands you couldn’t find at target.

This was going to be my suggestion. Mine also has the Sephora brand lip gloss that came in a variety packI would strongly discourage mascara as it’s really easy to get a bacterial eye infection plus they aren’t really good at taking it off, leading to racoon eyes or them pulling off half their eyelashes. A little eye shadow is much easier and less likely to cause an eye infection or style. |
This looks great, thank you! |
| Thanks for the help! We went to CVS. After some debating, she decided on a Babylips and a Rimmel Stay Glossy Lip Gloss. She applied the lip gloss as soon as we got in the car and was practically dancing on the ride home. It’s a nice neutral pink with a bit of shimmer. |
| Glossier is a super popular makeup brand for teens/college-age. It’s not a heavily made up look at all. |
This. Love this stuff! I like pink blossom. |
+1 |
| I like the maybelline baby lips product, too! |
