FCPS Boundary Review Updates

Do we know when the next boundary meeting is, where they go over these options 1 and option 2 scenarios?

This is why none of them will ever have successful political careers.

Seriously. It feels like a complete lack of perspective on the part of the school board. I really do hope that at least some of them read this thread to get a dose of perspective.

I asked FCPS through the website and got no response. You could ask the FCPS office of the Ombudsman, but that office is overseen by Lisa Youngblood Hall who was involved with the manipulated process for selecting BRAC members, so good luck.

Someone on Reddit said the next BRAC meeting was Monday (3/10).

Oh! Where’s the Reddit threat about this?

Interesting it would be Monday, haven’t they been Friday’s historically?

Shameful. We really do need the VDOE or the federal government to step in at this point. FCPS has shown it’s incapable of even setting up an objective advisory committee.

Crazy retelling of that story. Those great falls Nextdoor people are unhinged.

DP. Can you explain it then? If you are going to assert it is crazy, please let us know what happened with #35.

PP. So what is your explanation for why Woodson got more people on the BRAC than other pyramids, including one well known shill for the School Board? It doesn’t look like they even tried to hide the fact that they were stacking the deck.

They were never under any obligation to accept any BRAC input, but their recommendations won’t have any credibility given the obvious bias in favor of “friendly faces” and apparent other irregularities.

You cover everything you are supposed to cover every week and there are no distractions from the unruly kids. My school had an admin / library helper who monitored the kids in the online class. It's just a smaller, quieter room with the teacher on the monitor.
If it was online as in "on your honor" or watch from home then I could see kids skipping class or getting behind. That's not what this is though.

I actually think this well prepares students to stay on top of online courses they may take in college. And let’s be honest, maybe will take remote roles when they start careers. This is good practice of time management.

And before someone yells at me, of course in-person is fantastic and needed. However, for some of these more niche interests, put together virtual courses for everyone all over the county vs allow a transfer in for ONE topic.

Online doesn't work for all children. A child whose parents can arrange transportation for them to learn in person should not be blocked by the school board. Online doesn't work for all teachers. A teacher who thrives in the classroom with live and in person students shouldn't be forced to try to adapt their style, personality and talents to a screen.

Someone who definitely does not want her kid at the base school!

My base school is Langley. Maybe you can only express ideas that are in your narrow self-interest but others can at least acknowledge that there is more than one way of viewing things.

I agree with AP online. I’m saying if they made all AP available at ALL schools, that would decrease the transfer loophole.

The language could be online for those with smaller interest groups vs again, using that as an excuse to transfer out of an undesirable school.

Bring valued base education to all schools, offer online options for niche languages.

This is a problem. Giving families a little flexibility should not be seen as a de facto provision of an "escape route."

If FCPS shuts down this flexibility out of a desire to "trap" children in their zoned schools/pyramids, perhaps they should ask themselves why a kid would want to "escape."

Agreed. And this is the type of accessibility that not all families have, from lower class up to those now returning to office everyday. This is what the board will be trying to level out with their equity attempts.

“ As a member of the BRAC, we have not looked at any boundary changes yet. No decisions have been made. We will begin looking at scenarios at either our next meeting on Feb 21st or March 10th.”

Alright, get ready for FCPS to publicly post these scenarios as they should or FairFACTS will be ready to submit a FOIA.

Correct, the agenda and slides from all of the other boundary review meetings have been posted. This one should be no different.
