Dora Kennedy French Immersion - Entering After Kindergarten

Anonymous
Does anyone have any insight on how many spaces (if any) are typically available at Dora Kennedy for grades above kindergarten? I understand that there is a proficiency test for grades 1-8, but my kids currently attend a French immersion school elsewhere so I’m hoping that won’t be a problem. I’m guessing there’s some attrition every year, I just have no idea how much or in which grades. My kids would be entering 1st-4th grades next year. I’d appreciate any feedback.

No idea how many spaces would be available, but there is always attrition at the school, so they probably have a good chance of getting in. When students leave, they are difficult to replace, especially as they get older and need more French proficiency. There are not that many kids who have the language skills to test in, so I doubt there is much competition. Except perhaps in 1st or 2nd grades- it seems more kids enter in the early grades. Just give the school a call sometime to ask them about it.

Everyone I know who applied for admission after K has gotten in.
I know 4 families, two transfered in 1st, one in 2nd and one in 3rd.

OP here. Thank you both so much for the helpful responses. I’m most concerned about my youngest, so it’s great to know that other 1st graders have gotten in.

My kids transferred in 1st and 2nd grade - there is space in pretty much all grades after K.

I’m really happy to hear that! Thank you.

Did you transfer from Rochambeau? If yes, did the reason have to do with their school or teachers?
