Tickets to India

So, which website gave you the best deal on flights to India?
Any tips for the long flight? I'm flying to meet my husband's family for the first time and I never flew that long before.
Thanks for your opinion

Tips on overcoming jet lag also are welcome

I went a few years ago and loved it! It is overwhelming though. So many people, so much to see, so much desperate poverty. But also so many interesting and kind people so many things to see, so many interesting philosophies and religions.

I think we got tickets on Orbitz? Not sure though. I do recommend a flight with a layover in the Amsterdam airport. It is the best airport for breaking up a long flight! Tons to do - mini Van Gogh museum, great bookstore, and even a casino.

I tried Melatonin (sp?) to help me sleep and adjust to the time difference - may have helped a bit (normally I can't sleep on planes at all, but did sleep off and on that flight).

I assume you've read up on health concerns and hygiene, but one thing I cannot stress enough is take toilet paper and/or several pocket packs of tissues. Outside of your hotel, you just will not find toilet paper anywhere! Have a great trip.

OP here.
I'm from a poor background in a fairly poor country so poverty and lack of hygiene won't freak me out but good to know about the toilet paper. My in laws are building a bathroom in the house as a welcome gift!
I'm expecting so not sure if I want to take medication to sleep and stuff. I've heard that reducing carbs a few days earlier might help. I'll try.
Thanks for the input.

We got our tix directly from the British Airways website - that was the cheapest that we found.

I haven't bought tickets to India, but I tend to check the various sites like travelocity, expedia, kayak and then book directly with the airlines. More likely to get an upgrade if one is available.

When travelling half way around the world I try to get on local time asap. I don't sleep well at all on airplanes so if I arrive in the AM and am exhausted I'll take a 1-2 hour nap so I can make it through that day. If I arrive in the afternoon I try to stay up until at least 8 or 9pm and then go to bed. I usually wake up super early the next morning, but it's good to be a morning person for a few days until I slip back into my nightowl pattern.
