| Does anyone have information or kids that went to this school? Can you provide any information? Thank you. |
| Has anyone heard of this school? |
It's new, so probably not. |
| I know where it is but no personal experience, sorry. |
| ca. 2005, Jay Mathews named it one of his "High Schools That Work" |
What and who? |
I do not see other locations on the site... is it new to our area? I thought I had heard off all of the schools in NoVa. |
| Bump.... curious to hear from current families for "The New School of Northern VA" |
|
I pass by every day. Only known one male student who attended; he was home schooled until switching to New School
. |
| What a dumb name for a school. |
| I have no personal experience (except that I know it's not a new school) but there are many threads on it if you search. People seem happy. From the posts and the school website I kinda get the vibe it may attract more "offbeat boys" than otherwise, and if that's accurate it would not be a good fit for my straight-arrow DD. But we'll probably check it out in a couple years when DD is old enough. |
Thanks- I did try searching it here and didn't come up with much that was specific to it. Maybe I did something wrong and I'll try again. |
Use Google, not the search bar on DCUM. In the Google search bar, type this: site:dcurbanmom.com "the new school of northern virginia" |
| I did a tour of the New School in 2019. It's a small hidden school with almost no administrative staff. I was impressed overall by the self-direction of the kids at the school. If you have a self-motivated and academically inclined kid, who can make this commute work, I would stop by and tour. |
| We toured in 2021 and I really liked the school and the director. Unfortunately, they don't have a ton of outdoor space and a lot of the more interesting class choices aren't in the Middle School (only in the High School), so DC elected not to apply. |
