12 months between maintenance?

In general, what are people's thoughts on stretching the maintenance frequency from every 5,000 miles/6 months to every 5,000 miles/12 months (whichever comes first)?

The situation: 2012 Prius C with 57k miles. Driven more or less daily but I have a short commute and we use the Rav4 for most out-of-town trips so the miles accrue slowly. It's been 6 months since the last service but I'm less than halfway to 60k miles.

I recently got rid of a 17 year old car with 60K miles...all local stuff. It had its 30K and 60K. I am sure I changed the oil less than once a year. It was serviced a few other times for specific issues. I did not worry about the time unless I had an issue.

Do people really take their cars in for maintenance ever 5k miles?

My cars get oil changes, but that's it. Unless something is wrong. Both have 100k miles+ on them, so I'm not going to stop doing it this way.

i have a ford c-max. hybrid. I'm going 10K miles between oil changes/tire rotations. end up being about 12 months.

with a hybrid, you have to remember your miles driven, does not equate how often then gas engine has been running. not sure if the prius C has a a "lifetime mileage" report you can run. but I have it in my ford. and it tells me how many EV miles ive driven.

and so far for the 75K on my car, its about a 50/50 split.

Im doing oil changes on my wifes Forrester every 6k, which ends up being about every 11-12 months..

My car uses synthetic and has an oil change every 12 months or 10k miles. They suggest a tire rotation every 6 months or 5k miles. I rotate every 5-6k miles not every 6 months. If I haven’t got a tire rotation since my last oil change I’ll do it then. It doesn’t make a lot of sense to rotate at 6 months because you might only drive 2k miles that six month period the. Maybe 5k miles the next six month period so it won’t actually help even out the wear, it could exacerbate it.

One thing you should do, if your car is mostly for city driving, take it onto the beltway once a month and get up to speed for 15 or 20 minutes. If you don’t do this you will ruin your exhaust system. If you’re all electric or have a plug in hybrid this wouldn’t be an issue.
