| I'd like to get rid of some sun spots and brown areas on my face that seemed to become worse after pregnancy. I went to my dermatologis to ask about a peel but she recommended laser light treatment instead. Does anyone have experience with this? |
|
Yes, fabulous. Of course, depends upon your skin and how it recovers. Had the peel and was a shut-in for over one week with icky peeling skin. Laser was fast - they use a numbing cream. Took all of 10 minutes for a few spots. A little red but gone within hours.
I always suggest you double the amount of recovery time stated by the doctor. They like to downplay recovery time. |
| I have had both and didn't peel like that! I like peels better for spots and discoloration and IPL for general redness. But it depends what you have, a friend had what you describe and got them lasered off after pregnancy. If derm is recommending the laser I would go with that. |
| I had IPL and it didn't work at all the first time, although I did look like a prizefighter for over a week afterward. The second time they adjusted it so there was less brusing, but the results are still only eh, for what it costs. Of course they now recomend that I do more treatments, but I've thrown enough $$ down that particular rabbit-hole for the time being. |
| I would also like to get rid of some minor wrinkles, which I know that peels will take care of. What about the laser? |
I know laser does that, i did not hear that peels do too? |
I did IPL last year (4 treatments) and the results were amazing. Only after the first one did I experience the need to wear a lot of makeup and hide from the public for a few days. My 46-year-old skin looked and still looks great. I get complimented on it all the time.

I just had one IPL and bought a package of three, so I have two more to go. The results from the first were very good - got rid of a lot of sunspots and lightened up other freckles/spots.
However, the treatment was pretty painful, even with numbing cream. It took about 7-10 days for my skin to look "normal" again. And I had a bad headache and general achiness for a day or two afterwards. I like the results, but not the treatment! |
| How long do the IPL results last? |
| How much do both of those cost? |
Peel $350 each, IPL $500 each |
|
I got a package of three IPLs for $750. Otherwise, it was $300 each.
The results are permanent. All the sunspots are permanently removed and the freckles are supposed to stay lighter. However, you can always get new sunspots. That is why it is important to wear a medical grade sunscreen every day. |
| Does the laser light work on acne scars? |
I know the CO2 fractional laser does. It is much more expensive than IPL though. I had the treatment and the results are really amazing. |
| Can anyone recommend a Dr. in DC for the light treatment? I went to the office of Dr. Read and it is $500 per session or a package for $2000. Is this the going rate? |
