Hope for those trying

I am 42. We have been trying for 6-7 mos. I have one 4 y.o., who was conceived like the PP poster - on the first try using OPK and timed sex. I went this cycle and met with an R.E. Got the full day 3 bloodwork, but I don't know the results. I got an HSG on day 6 this cycle. DH went yesterday for his testing. Tomorrow is 14 days since a positive OPK.

DH wasn't sure about having his appointment, so I tested yesterday just to see if he had to. It was a frustrating very faint + on a cheap test. I wasn't convinced, so DH did his duty anyway.

Well, four tests later including 2 FRER, there is no question. I can't believe I am typing this - I have a BFP.

Now, what do I do about the follow appointment with the RE next week. I don't think we are switching insurance to MDIPA or Aetna now.

Send good thoughts that this will stick.

Thanks to everyone on these boards for the hope over the past few months.

I really don't mean to be a downer. But the miscarriage rate for women who are 42 is over 40%. I think you should be optimistic, but I don't think you should stop doing the things you need to do to try again if necessary.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you, OP.

congratulations! i hope this is it for you although like the previous poster I suggest that you may want to keep other options open just based on your age and how early this is.

Oh please shut up and let her have a moment. Your stats mean that 60% don't miscarry.

Thinking happy thoughts for you OP.

OP here. Thanks for the well wishes. I am aware of the miscarriage rate. I have also miscarried in the past. I suppose one of the reasons I posted on the board is that I HAD to tell someone, since DH and I aren't telling anyone, because we know that nothing is a given here. Went for a beta/progesterone at OB yesterday, hoping to identify any early progesterone issues that have plagued me in the past.

Good luck my dear. Keep us posted! We're rooting for you.

Go back to the RE - call them and see if they want to do testing. They may do more testing than your regular OB (ie. test progesterone levels along with beta test, etc). Stick with RE until RE refers you back to OB.

OP here. I've never really been under the RE's care. I did the initial appointment, went to Labcorp for the bloodwork and Washington Radiology for the HSG. I got initial bloodwork done at my regular OB yesterday. They called today. Progesterone looks good (15.2), I am not sure what the beta was. She wants me to get follow up bloodwork next week. Seeing that today is only CD 27, I am sure she thinks I tested too early. For me, she ran the bloodwork 14-15 DPO, so I think her numbers are good.
