IVF cost

Confused! what does the cost of IVF depend on? Is it different based on diagnosis? For background, I’m 33, unexplained secondary infertility (all labs and tests normal) and have been TTC for 1.5 years.

The cost the clinic charges will be the same for everyone. But there are extras that you might want to pay for based off of your diagnosis. For example, ICSI is needed for most male infertility diagnosies (although some clinics do it for everyone and include it in their global fee). Also, PGS testing, where cells from the embryos are screened for chromosomal abnormalities, is extra as well. Otherwise, the thing that most likely will change the cost by diagnosis is the medication. If you're OOP, you'll be paying per vial of medication. So if labwork shows you'll be a poor responder, you might have to have large doses of medication, which can be several thousand dollars.

Based on my experience and what I've read here, OOP IVF (with own eggs) can cost between 10k and 30k+ depending on whether you do bare-bones IVF (no PGS but maybe ICSI and assisted hatching) or if you are on the older side but still can get into some shared risk program. Medication is not included. The drugs to stimulate egg production can cost between 2k to 6k depending on your protocol (I paid about $3.5k per round, just for the drugs leading up to the retrieval). Once embryos are fertilized and transferred, you need to buy more drugs (the most expensive of which are - based on my experience - progesterone capsules and if applicable progesterone in oil for intramuscular injections).

The cost of the IVF is standard
The cost of meds will depend on which meds prescribed, where you buy them and how much you need because on how your body responds. I had a cycle where I ended up paying for extra meds because it fell over a holiday weekend and I didn’t want to run out.
You will pay more if you need ICSI
You will pay more for PGS testing
