Does anyone know of an RE who is also a 'regular Ob/gyn'- or not affiliated with a fertility clinic

It's been a year, which means we should be headed to the RE- but I am also in the process of switching insurance, and thus switching Ob/gyn's. I was wondering if there was one that I could get this as a one shot deal- especially b/c we don't really think we are going to go very far in terms of treatment. (well I shouldn't say that- I guess it depends on what the issues are.)
related- does anyone know of an RE (or ob/gyn for that matter) who finds temp charting to be useful, and would be willing to look for patterns- rather than saying that I shouldn't be charting?

I think it would be tough to find an RE who also works as an ob-gyn and isn't part of a fertility clinic. There are a lot of economies of scale in IVF, so I think that would be tough to pull off. As for the BBT charts, we showed them to Sasogian (sp?) at SG, Dr. D at Dominion and Frankfurter at GW. Frankfurter was the only one who looked at them and seemed to care what they showed.

Dr. Bridges is my OB/GYN. His brochure says he does fertility treatments, but he's a solo practioner. I assume he only does "simple" stuff, but never used him for that. Got pregnant next door at Columbia Fertility.

Neither Columbia nor GIVF in Fairfax spent 30 seconds looking at my year + of fertility charts. I've heard (but don't have names) that there exist some midwives who have worked with charts, lesbians, and donor sperm.

Good luck.

My RE said the only thing charting is good for is reminding me that Im still trying I had about 10 months of charts..but at least I learned some useful information!

My OB told me that charting is a "poor man's (woman's) OPK test" - totally did not care about it. I only charted a few months of my 2 years of TTC because it just didn't seem to make a difference whether I did it or not!

I have to say I don't fully understand why REs are so dismissive of charting. Even if it is just the "poor man's OPK -- all those OPKs can add up to serious $$$$ and I was able to predict ovulation just as well by charting as I was by using OPKs. Plus I got some advanced warning of when my period was coming.

It is because their worldview is all about what high tech procedures can be done. There is no focus on the patient's overall health in general, anything beyond IUI/IVF that could help, etc. For example, I found a study by physical therapists (randomized, controlled, etc.) that showed a substantial improvement in pregnancy rates through a program of manual therapy (working on scar tissue and other blockages that could interfere with the reproductive system). How many women with endometriosis are told by their REs to try this first? Probably close to zero, I'm sure in large part because most REs don't pay attention to these types of studies and wouldn't know who to refer their patients to. Typical of Western physicians, unfortunately.

And yes, I appreciate the value of the high tech procedures, but I just think it is a shame that that that essentially is the only focus.

Poster 14:45...I totally agree with you!

I have been charting for almost 6 months now and the only person who seems to care is my acupuncturist! Have learned a lot from these charts and have seen evidence of my health improving via charting.

Sorry, you're going to have search for it - it has been almost a year since I read it.
