Is it normal for a daycare to leave a #2 in toddlers diaper before you pick them up?

It seems like lately I've had to deal with a load of smooshed and crusty poop in kid's diaper when I pick them up from daycare. Is it typical?

No - though if your child poops at the same time everyday and it is the end of the day maybe it just happened.

Absolutely not. I think that's happened once or twice in my 4+ years of picking up diapered kids at daycare.

No. Our daycare always made a point of checking our daughter's diaper right when I arrived so that we would always leave with a clean diaper. But... are you sure it is not happening on the way home, or right when you leave daycare? There was one parent at our daycare who used to rant about this, when in reality what was happening is that her daughter was holding in until her mom arrived.

I think it's a good indication of the quality of care.

Diaper is dirty when I pick her up. The fact that is crusty signifies it has been ther for awhile. The daycare center is fine (or so I thought), and the dirty diapers have only recently started. How to I adress without passing blame/

When we started at our daycare center, the Director made a point of asking us to speak up if we had any concerns and actually gave an example of a parent who had been really frustrated b/c their child always had a poopy diaper at pick-up time, but didn't say anything. Once the parent spoke up, the teachers knew to always check that kid's diaper in the late afternoon. And they felt really badly to learn it had been going on for a while. So, I would encourage you to mention it to your child's teacher. And I really don't think it's necessarily a bad sign re quality of care. It's very different noticing whether a kid's diaper is dirty when it's YOUR kid and you're always hugging & carrying them, so you can usually smell it right away, than when you're a teacher with a class of 8 or 12 who are running around & playing.

You should talk to the director about this, not only is it unacceptable it is also unhealthy. Your child could get an infection from having to sit in a dirty diaper for a long period. This happened to me once (the dirty diaper), I spoke to the director and she spoke to the caregiver and it never happened again.
