The season has not yet begun- but we already know we need to change clubs
We should have done it in the Spring, but had delayed hoping things would change at the club (they have not). So, we are stuck in current situation for this year (U-12). When should we start getting in touch with other clubs/coaches for next year? Is it too early to start the process in Fall? Do we wait until closer to Spring tryouts? Thanks for advice! |
There was another thread with a similar situation. Might have some helpful information. If you are locked in for the fall already early spring might be a good time to scout out some clubs/teams and talk to the coaches. Just know that the coaching slates for most clubs are not out yet, however, a good opportunity to check out some practices etc. If you are thinking about moving prior to the end of spring just make sure to check out rules about moving teams mid-season and rules around that. The other thread seemed to imply that without approval moving from one CCL club to another (if you haven't moved) is a no go, not sure about NCSL or EDP. |
Please elaborate on what is wrong with current team/club? Is your child on top team at current club? Are they one of better players on team? How did you think situation would improve from last year to this year? |
|
It depends on what the problem is.
Players do sometimes switch clubs from fall to spring and sometimes mid season. Some clubs may give you a hard time about releasing your child to another team. At U12 most important thing is that dear child is enjoying soccer. If they are not liking it they probably will not improve and/or want to stick with sport as they get older. |
| Curious what club would be so bad that you’re already making that decision in mid-August? Or what has happened that makes you already feel you need to leave? |
|
Op- same situation.
I think we will move over the winter. I feel like there are so many more people in this situation because there has been so much change and upheaval in many Clubs late spring/summer. It’s the wild Wild West. Then you have promised not kept because it is a whole new band of characters. |
| If things are that bad I would look to make the move as soon as the Fall season is over. Spend the next couple of months doing some research (watch games/practices of teams you are considering), then in mid-late Oct reach out to them and see if they'd be interested in taking a look at your kid. If they are, have the kid come out to a few practices in late Fall, and then if they get an offer make the switch so your play can start training with the new team in the winter, giving him/her plenty of time to get integrated before the Spring season starts. |
|
If there is a spot, move now. Approach other clubs NOW as many have one or two spots open for a late addition. They'll say "come out to our practice" and you can get a run-in before the season starts.
Your kid is 12. Another season of 'bad' stuff for them can really have an impact on their mental love of the game. 13 is the average age for kids to quit sport, in large part because it is "no longer fun". If the current club is going to push your kid out of the sport, then seek a new option immediately. |

I made an assumption that the OP was locked in to pay for the season. Curious if others would pay the remainder of their commitment for one club and pay another. |
If there’s a somewhat reasonable explanation as to the change of heart, the club should release you without penalties. Switching to a team in another league is a way out too. |
| I'm sure if you talk with the club and do it in a good way, they may just release the player. Some will release without paying the remainder of the fee while others will require you to pay. Friends that left for a new club are not happy with the over rostering of teams and players having to sit out and being rotated when they were told something else before moving. Some other clubs do have space. If you stayed with better hopes, reach out to other clubs nearby or just show up at a field and speak to the coach and if they have space, may even allow your kid to jump in practice. May be a winter move or even now if current club works with you. |
In this scenario, why wouldn’t they simply move back to the old club or another club? Don’t be such a doormat and allow clubs to over roster and the rotating of players. What’s the point? |
You’re paying a lot of money to be rotated to play in games. Are you thinking you’d be on the short list for DA or ECNL ? Think again. Rotating is the worst. |
