Muzzle vs Cone for wound

Anonymous
We have a 2 year old dog. She recently had a paw injury and the vet gave her some antibiotic cream and a cone because she was licking her paw raw. The cone is useless. We have tried socks, socks with elastics, rubber booties, socks held with duck tape, bandage, etc. and she manages to remove/shred everything to get to her paw. We have a basket muzzle that we leave her with because she is a shredder. It was recommended by two trainers who I think gave up trying to correct her shredding behaviour (of our house). It is a large basket one, she can pant and drink water through it, but she can't get to her wound because she can't shred the bandages. I'm just worried because I have never left her overnight with a muzzle (we crate her overnight). But it is either that or a shredded paw. Any other suggestions???

Get a better cone.

Hello OP, our dog is also super flexible and can always find its paws. I know the PP said to get a better cone. Oh, we have 5 at my house, all different kinds, all useless. On the 2 occasions our dog had issues with its paws, we muzzle our dog because it is the only way it can't hurt itself. Your dog will be fine. Hope it heals soon.
