| The Tesla x seems the have everything I want in a car: 6 passenger, captains chairs, lots of cargo room, zero emissions, doors I can open for my kids from the front seat. I hate the gullwing doors and think they are overly flashy. I’m not interested in being “that mom” with the flashy car in my very middle class neighborhood. I’m very torn and curious to know what others think? Would you judge someone who drove one? What would you think of them? |
| What about an electric BMW? |
| I would think it's a cool car and you have way too much money. It has reliability concerns, and those doors are more trouble than they are worth most of the time. But I'd still like a ride. |
| It’s a glorified minivan at the end of the day. |
| Op here. Agree it’s a glorified minivan. That’s why I like it. If a fully electric minivan existed, I’d buy it in a second. |

We rented one for the weekend to try out. I liked our model 3 better. The extra row in the x takes away your trunk space and is not very roomy. The wing doors are awful—I got hit in the head more than once because someone went to close it when I was trying to grab something out of the back seat for the kids. Dumb design.
We have a hybrid minivan (Pacifica) which is more functional if you need that number of seats, I think. A Prius is also surprisingly roomy now if you don’t really need that sixth seat. |
| Is this really a serious question? No one cares what you drive so if you want to shell out for this then do it. That’s a very self-centered question cloaked in a “oh, but what will my less fortunate neighbors think” disguise. So condescending. My bet is that some of your neighbors have the ability to buy this car too but choose not to for any number of reasons. And believe me, I doubt the Tesla x will get any consideration from them at all beyond initial curiosity about it since it’s a newish model. They’re a dime a dozen where I live so get over it. |

OP, we have an X and live in a middle class neighborhood. The doors are slightly ridiculous but also come in handy. It’s a glorified electric minivan and so for our family of five, it’s perfect. We’ve had maybe three instances of people getting bumped by the doors in the three years we’ve had it. It’s not an issue. The third row folds down if you need extra trunk space, but between that and the front trunk (frunk, har har), there’s plenty of space.
I don’t care if people think of me as “that mom.” I’m a good person and the people whose opinions I care about know that about me. |
| If think you are a woman of privilge. |
Maybe a dumb question, but where did you rent one? I have 2-3 cars in mind that I would love to rent as a longer test drive, but they aren’t available at normal car rental places |
| I really want the Model Y, but need to replace my car soon. |
|
| decent middle class car |
| I would get one if they changed the door design. But we have a Model 3 and managed to pack for a vacation for 4 including three sets of golf clubs. |
Yeah, there's a lot more storage space in a Model 3 than meets the eye. But if the OP can wait, it sounds like the Model Y will be exactly what they want. |
