My family is looking to add a new member to our family and our kids are set on getting a silver lab. Hoping some folks can give us some suggestions on reputable silver lab breeders.
Thanks in advance! |
| Any of them. They're all as reputable as the other. |

I’m sorry, but there is no such thing as a reputable silver lab breeder. Silver labs are most likely Weim crosses.
https://philosophyofdog.com/the-silver-lab-controversy/ At the end of the day, a reputable breeder will never breed for color. They’ll breed within the standard, sure—but they should be breeding for structure and temperament first. Nearly all decent breeders will match the puppy to you, vs you picking the puppy. A lab is a fabulous breed to bring home—but I’d go looking for the best lab breeder you can find and be open to a chocolate/yellow/black with the right personality for your family set up. |
| That seems like a really bad idea. Why not just get a regular colored lab? |
| Silver dreams labs in Virginia. Note they are working dogs and have lots of energy in the younger years. |
| There is no silver lab. You’re buying a mutt. If you’re ok with that, then have at it, but they are not actual labs. |
| Foster a lab to adopt. |
This. There are lots of great lab mixes out there. Or if you really like the color, get a weimaraner. |
+1 |
A silver lab is essentially a chocolate lab. |
|
Weimaramers drool endlessly and they will eat any cat they encounter. Be informed before you buy/ adopt / foster etc.
And I wonder at the OP. You are looking for a dog of a specific color? Is that so it matches your furniture or something? How insanely dumb is that. When you get a dog the two most important factors, are temperament and genetic health. |
She wants a silver lab not a Weimaraner. Silver labs don’t drool endlessly and they don’t chase cats as part of their temperament. |
How insanely dumb is it that people buy pigs or Boxers or labs or anything else? Insanely dumb post. |
No. Real chocolate labs are the product of yellow and black labs. They are genetic anomalies. The mother or father are either black or yellow. A reputable breeder would never breed a chocolate lab with another chocolate lab. When you see chocolate labs that have a more orange coat you know they are a product of questionable breeding. A good breeder will not be able to tell you what color their litters will be until they are born. They do not breed for color at all. |
| Please do not get a Silver Labrador. The breeding that’s required to do this leads to a lot of health problems for the dogs. There’s a reason that this color is not recognized as an official breed color by the AKC. |
