"interesting" friends

Anonymous
I see that a lot around here - I love how my friends are all smart and interesting and know all about politics and world affairs and such - and I agree, it's nice to have friends with whom you can talk about "intellectual" stuff. But do you ever just appreciate those friends who aren't interested? My BFF from my hometown is like this, and honestly, sometimes it's nice to hang out and not go on and on about the state of affairs in the US with DJT at the helm (although I know that we both vote Dem) or get into these deep discussions about economics or anything like that that seem to be more common among my DC friends.

I am NOT saying my friend isn't smart - she's a speech pathologist, very smart, and a wonderful human being - it's just different conversation with her. And I like that.

I love it. I can spend all day every day in outrage mode and people here tend to be there all of the time

I'm someone who will psychoanalyze POTUS but will also do the same with the Real Housewives.

I like the people who straddle both lines.

Today we talked about the corrupt practices of timeshares, and yesterday we quoted Friends lines to each other.

I get your point, but I don’t equate “interesting” with “political” or even “intellectual.” I have a close group of female friends who I think are all super interesting and cool, and we basically never talk politics or world events. They’re “interesting” to me because they have cool jobs (our group includes a federal prosecutor, a domestic violence advocate, a social worker, and a professional rock climbing guide), unique interests outside of work, and because they’re outgoing, thoughtful women who are just fun to be around.

No, I can't abide the dumbs.

Me too!!!! I love juicy TV & high politics, although it’s rare finding friends are also like this. That’s ok though!

Come be friends with me! I had a deep talk about what we doubt about Christianity with one coworker, and then about Shannen Doherty having potentially mellowed since her cancer experience and whether we think she got along with Tori and Jennie while shooting this BH90210.

I live in D.C.

I specifically tell my friends when we meet up - no politics. We can talk about the latest blockbuster, what's wrong with their kids, what festival they're looking forward to, but nothing domestically or even internationally related to politics.

(We all have politically-related careers).

I felt like that sometimes when I lived here but now that we moved away I am missing the conversations/local subject matter experts. I mean, everyone in the country knows POTUS is an idiot and calls him such but DC people were so technically correct, calm and considerate in how they reasoned such an observation.

I actually love this about DC. But only when it's genuine. I love hearing what my friends are passionate about and what they're doing to make the world a better place. Most are not directly involved in politics, though. That would be too much for me.

I think there is a fine line between sharing your passions and the obnoxious career-related dick measuring contests that are all too common in this area - most people here fall on the wrong side of that line.

Yeah, I'd take this ANY day over whatever conversation on the subject I'm about to have in a Jacksonville airport bar tomorrow night...

Correct, calm and considerate? The local egomaniacs are the most unhinged Trump haters of them all

I’m an Ivy-educated executive, as are many of my friends. We literally never talk about politics. I’m not sure why that would make people interesting.
