What's the going rate for losing a tooth these days? Also, how do you get the tooth out from under the pillow without waking up the kid? Or do they just sleep so soundly it's not an issue?

We give a $1 coin for very tooth. You will find the range all over the place though. Do what works for you.

We give $5 because that is all that we had on us when DS lost his first tooth. It was 7 PM and neither one of us wanted to go out and get change.

None of my three kids have ever woken up—I usually set an alarm in my phone for 10 pm to do it so I don’t forget. It goes in a ziplock bag so it’s easier to find.

Have kid put the tooth in a small bag or container so you're not rooting around for it and possibly waking them up. My DD is a light sleeper so I have to use all my ninja skills but I've managed not to wake her. We gave $5 for first tooth and $2 for every tooth thereafter.

$1 gold coin plus a foreign coin (from where the tooth fairy was last!). We either paint sparkles on the coins with a tiny bit of sparkle nail polish or just use sparkle dust. My oldest is THRILLED and we look up where the tooth fairy was last on our globe.

Zip lock bag and $5 for the first and $1 for the rest. My kids sleep very soundly so I just go in before going to bed.

I messed up and gave mine a $20 by mistake. Try explaining to a kid that it's a down payment on future teeth. lol

$1 (in quarters) + one coin from another country. (The tooth fairy travels around the world and her coins get mixed up, and it's fun to figure out what country she was in last.) The coins go in a little bag and make a nice jingling sound.

My kids have tooth fairy pillows that hang on the outside of their bedroom doors. Sometimes they decide to build "traps" (think leprechaun trap) in an old shoe box instead.

So funny! I had to give too much for my child’s 3rd tooth this summer, only had a $20 and we were traveling. Not sure what I’ll do from here .... previously we’ve done $5.

Our tooth fairy doesn't take teeth, he visits them like they're exhibits in a museum.

Our tooth fairy is also not very good at math, or going to the bank to have small amounts of money on hand, and so the denominations he brings are quite varied.

Also, I think he has a drinking problem, because sometimes he misses the bed entirely, and leaves the money under the bed where only mom can find it with a flashlight.
