Private & Independent Schools
| Can someone who has a child at Maret tell me if there is diversity? I have my tour next week but a neighbor told me that it wasn't diverse? What are your thoughts on the school? My daughter is AA and we are at another private now and not happy. She tells me she feels left out and some of these children just seem to be mean. She was waitlisted at Sidwell last year and ofcourse disappointed because everyone I know is so happy there : ) |
| I'm AA and I have many friends (of varying races) with children at Maret and I can tell you that their kids are happy and the school takes diversity seriously. It's a small school, and competes with the other top privates for students, but I think they do a good job of being welcoming to a wide variety of students. Why does your daughter feel left out? Does she feel the kids are being mean because she is African American or because of other factors. If she is one of a few, then it might be hard for her, especially if she's older. I would definitly take a look at Maret. |
| My daughter's friend is AA and he just graduated Maret. He liked it and was recruited to a top Ivy. |
| Maret is definitely diverse and they seem to take it seriously. |

Per NCES,
76% white 13% AA 3% Hispanic 6% Asian |
The actual stats according to the admission office are: 63% white 15% AA 8% Interracial 7% Hispanic 7% Asian |
That link has out of date information. Maret now has 635 students enrolled and the stats on this link are incorrect and out of date. |
