2024 B team?

Anonymous
Our son is new to lacrosse, plays for school team and played rec last year. He really wants to play club lacrosse this year. He would be excited to play on a B team, but are those teams hard to make because they are already set with boys who have played on them for years? Any suggestions for B teams that would still be taking new players, and would have good coaching? Thank you.

Where do you live? Possible team options are widely distributed.

So Bethesda/northern VA all great.
Thanks

Evergreen Lacrosse (now called Hammers) is having tryouts this weekend - you might want to look strongly at that option. Have great facilities in Leesburg, they aren't a really strong team but they usually have some good players and good coaches, kids seems to be having fun. Otherwise. Madlax DMV will add new players to an already bloated roster albeit any appreciable playing time in game isn't likely.

You can also try Next Level. They have another round of tryouts on Aug 15th.

Madlax will take any player for B team. May not be a great situation for good kids that are looking to make it to next level... however since your son is new to lacrosse - this could be a good situation for you.

"Madlax will take any player for B team." This is patently false.

MDX Revolution might be a good fit. They have tryouts at Good Counsel this weekend (8/3 and 8/4)

If in Bethesda first try NL (still have tryouts upcoming), Madlax (still have tryouts upcoming) and BLC/DCE (just finished tryouts but reach out, you never know what their final #s were). For any of those I would reach out to the clubs. As this is rising 8th grade things are getting a little more serious for people so it pays to be proactive. From there go to Evergreen and MDX but a little bit farther to commute. If you want to stay local and do not get an opportunity at NL, Madlax or BLC/DCE then do rec and start doing clinics at the club(s) you are interested in. Outside of being on a team it is the best way to get in front of the coaches/clubs and many times it is the A team coaches who run these (though not always, it is usually posted who is running a given clinic).

Correction any player with a valid CC

Has DC Express contacted players who tried out this past weekend?

not PP, maybe not every player but some DMV teams sure make it seem that way. Playing for any team and especially Madlax’s B team is seldom ideal - good luck to OP and her son.

You'll have to decide if he's a talented all-around athlete and a big kid who just needs a little stick work. Coaches are much more likely to take a chance on a beginner like that. Otherwise I'd agree Evergreen or Madlax DMV.

Yes, all first round picks have received offers Sunday/Monday and had 24 hours to respond. If you haven't heard yet you should 100% reach out and ask. Some B teams may still be figuring out their final rosters (contacting second and third round picks), but it's my understanding that most have their teams pretty much settled at this point. That being said, if you haven't heard anything I would reach out. Maybe the email got sent to junk or they don't have your correct contact.
