While this particular organization is headed to the dustbin, and sympathy for priests is at an all time low, it actually is true that a priest facing completely fabricated allegations can still find himself homeless, with no funds to defend himself criminally, civilly or in a church proceeding and completely sold down the river. The standard for "credible" allegations is unbelievably low. The accused is nearly in the position of having to prove a negative, often without even knowing specifically what he is accused of.
Also, while Burke is a unique character to say the least, the organization in question ostensibly was founded to help accused persons, not proven abusers. Even men accused of abuse are entitled to due process and a presumption of innocence, particularly where there is a well-financed abuse complaint industry and a perceived deep pocket target involved.
