Weight loss before getting pregnant

Anonymous
I'm about to be 33, and struggling with my weight for the past 5 years. I need to loose about 80 pounds before we get pregnant and I'm feeling very discouraged.

I'm 5'5 and 223 pounds. Prior to the last 5 years my highest adult weight was 135 pounds. So it's not my body type or natural. It's a problem. I don't feel right getting pregnant right now, but I know time is not on my side. I don't have any apparent health problems besides being severely overweight I know I'm at risk for a complicated pregnancy and possible loss.

Anyone here overhauled diet/exercise in order to get pregnant?

I'm not looking to be skinny or vain about this. I'd love to get to my highest bmi in healthy range and then feel ok about carrying a baby.

That’s a big gain in 5 years. Do you have a sense as to why you gained that much that fast?

I was about your size when I got pregnant. The nausea combined with my desire to get healthy actually led me to lose 40 pounds while pregnant. I had a full term 8lb baby. After her birth I continued to lose weight through walking and eating better. 2 years later I have an 19 month old DD and I’m down 75 pounds and feel great. I would say the pregnancy jump started it.

My doctor also monitored weight loss, but she was fine with it since the baby was growing well

I’m in a similar situation (5’7”, 235lbs), but I’m TTC while trying to lose weight. I know neither one will happen immediately so I’m working toward both. The past 6 months I’ve maintained a healthy diet, take prenatal vitamins to get prepared for TTC, and my physical only showed slightly high cholesterol. I believe overall health is the most important part. Good luck and try not to stress or beat yourself up too much about the number on the scale

I'm almost your exact story, even down to the age, but I'm 5'7

I tried a ton of calorie counting, tracking, but the only thing that truly worked was Keto. CUT THE CARBS and the weight will fall off

I lost 60lbs, got pregnant, gained 50lbs, and then lost it all within 6 months of having the baby

Weight training + keto or mediterranean diet + swimming. Once you have built up the stabilizer muscles through weights then running also helps and doesn’t have as high a risk of injury.

I planned 6 months out and lost 20 lbs before trying to get pregnant. Got pregnant then miscarried. Put back on 10 pounds. Not a fun experience.
