What type of stroller do we really need in the beginning? My husband is a big runner so eventually we will purchase a Bob, but we need help navigating the stroller maze.
Thanks |
| One that you can put the car seat directly into. Recommend the Graco Snap and Go. The Chicco Cortina is also good, but a bit bulky and more expensive. |
| Do a search on this forum for "travel system" and you will get some good posts. (You can obviously search for "stroller" but you will probably get a ton of posts.) |
| The BOB has something you can purchase so you can attach the infant car seat. So unless you think you need something light weight for the car, etc., you might be fine with just the BOB. If you do want something light weight to take in and out of the car, I would recommend a snap and go. When the baby is older, BOB and an umbrella stroller (e.g., Maclaren) should work. But much of this depends on how you plan on using the stroller. |
| We are going to get a BOB and for now we are using a snap and go. I cant wait to get the BOB but I am happy with the snap and go for as long as I am having to carry around a car seat. A car seat and a BOB might just be too much gear for me. |
| snap-n-go is awesome. |
| I can't fathom why people wouldn't get the snap-n-go travel system. With the amount of time my DD spent sleeping as an infant this makes life significantly easier. |
| What's a snap and go travel system? Is that the same as just the snap and go? Pardon my beginner stroller knowledge but I thought a travel system was those huge stroller contraptions that also accepted the car seat but that the snap and go were just the simple and much lighter frame. |
A snap-n-go is a term for an empty stroller frame that you snap an infant car seat into. Graco is very common, and you can get the Graco infant car seat and the Graco snap-n-go. You can also get a generic brand snap-n-go and you can snap in multiple brands of infant car seats (eg, cosi, britax, etc). The snap-n-go frames are usually pretty cheap (maybe $75 or less). A travel system generally does not include the empty stroller frame. You instead have a bigger stroller that is the traditional forward-facing one for when the baby is bigger, and you can snap your infant seat into that. So you save yourself the cost of the stroller frame. I might be a bit off on this description, I'm sure someone will correct me if I am. We went the the snap-n-go because it is less bulky than the travel system stroller. Once DD outgrew the infant car seat, we got a smaller umbrella stroller that we are happy with, as we would not have wanted the bulkier stroller that comes with the travel system. My recommendation is to just get the snap-n-go and then when your baby is 6+ months you will have a much better idea what would work for you for a replacement stroller. Good luck! |

I'd echo the recommendations to get a Snap and Go-like stroller, but suggest you compare the Snap and Go, MacLaren Easy Traveller, and Universal Car Seat Carrier before you do. I love that I have a snap and go instead of a stroller, but I wonder if it was the best pick out of the three with respect to steering, suspension, and basket size.

When comparing, make sure to pay close attention to how your car seat will fit in the frame. I recall that some frames would fit a variety of car seats, but that some of the seats fit more securely than others. The sales people at Buy Buy Baby seem well versed in the stoller/car seat issue; the sales people at BRU less so. Also, some popular strollers that people get for later use (e.g., the City Mini) have a separate car seat bar attachment thing, which means you can use the stroller like a snap n go at first. The pros would be that (I'd guess) the bar is cheaper and it's easier to store once you've stopped using the car seat as part of your stroller. The cons would be that even as light as some of these strollers are, they're still bulkier than a snap n go (and i think at times the bars get in the way of the easy folding mechanism, but I'm not sure on that). |
| Another vote for snap and go. They are cheap and work as well or better than the expensive Bugaboo, etc. |
| We had a Peg Perego infant seat and used the Maclaren Easy Traveller frame... it was a great combo. |
| Snap and Go only works with an infant car seat? |
