| I just paid off my car and shortly after paying off the loan, we received a document from the bank that looks exactly like the blue Certificate of Title, but it’s red. It is called the Maryland Notice of Security Interest Filing. Does anyone know if I need to go to the MVA to get the Title for my car? |
Yes, Maryland has a two-part title so you need to go and get the other part. Was a royal pain when I didn’t get it before moving! |
| No, you should have the title, but it will show a lien. The red one is the release of that lien. You need both parts to sell the car or you can take both parts to the MVA and get a title with no lien showing. The MVA does not hold on to the other part, you have it somewhere, or it’s lost. |
| I googled this the other day and found some reddit posts on it. You can take it (or mail) to the MVA but it isn’t necessary so long as you provide both when getting rid of the car. |
| We mailed it in and received title a week later. Very easy. |
You didn’t have the title with the lien information on it? |
Yes, you mail both of them. |
Did you send a form, money, or anything else other than the two forms? If you sent no money and just the two papers and they sent you a new clear title back, then that’s the most in-Maryland thing I’ve heard of. No 49.99 fee? |
No fee. Just mail those two items. |
