Los Vegas or San Diego for January Trip

We plan to go to the West Coast, where would you go with 2 young kids?
Choice between Los Vegas or San Diego?

Which place would be more fun for the family (4 and almost 6 year old)?

Hands down, San Diego. Las Vegas isn't really very family friendly, in spite of a push in recent years to make it appear that way. San Diego is great for children. Balboa Park, Legoland, the Ocean, Sea World, the Navy ships, San Diego zoo, beautiful weather. It's great and very family friendly. Your kids are a great age for it, there's tons to do.

Where is Los Vegas? Never heard of it.

San Diego, no question. In addition to Sea World, Zoo, etc, my five year old DS loved the Maritime Museum (wonderful old ships to crawl around on, and they do boat rides around the harbor). Disneyland is also a very doable day trip.

Generally agree with PPs about SD. Lots of great outdoorsy stuff to do. But if your kids like indoor stuff, maybe LV would be OK too.

Do not go to Las Vegas b/c kids are not allowed in casinos and in most restaurants. A friend of mine made the mistake of going with her DS and she could not bring him to anything b/c casinos are everywhere and she was not able to eat in nice restaurants and could not go see shows. She ended up having to pay a fortune for a hotel babysitter so she could go see a show she really wanted to see. She then went to the Grand Canyon and had a much better time.

San Diego, no question. Done both - and San Diego is much more kid friendly, walkable, and fun than anything Las Vegas has to offer.

San Diego over Las Vegas. I agree w/ 14:21, except they do have a neat acqurium (Shark Reef) inside Mandalay Bay and a few other animal exhibits, etc. You can walk through the casino w/ your child, just can't sit down to play slots or table games with a kid.
