We are off Nebraska Avenue. What's the commute really like? I don't understand the toll lanes over there at all --you can pay to use HOV? I will do some investigating but if anyone has some insight into this I would appreciate it.
thanks |
| Red Line + Silver Line. Ask your employer for a transit subsidy in lieu of free parking. |
| Take Canal over Chain Bridge to 123. Don't need to use toll |
|
Stay off chain bridge...and don’t go down 123 through McLean...
Traffic is a disaster...go 66. |
| Canal has both lanes going inbound in AM |
| I used to go from Georgetown to Freddie Mac. 20 min in the morning. Coming back is a pain in the butt because 267 joining 66. You can look at 1 hour if you leave between 4:30pm - 6:30pm. Also around Christmas, Tyson's area was a big parking lot. I used to sit in the traffic for 20 min looking at the toll way but could not get on it. |
Canal was bad both AM and PM because of Chain bridge. Faster on 66 like PP said. I tried them all LOL |
| I have a similar commute; I just come from further north on Nebraska Ave. Getting to VA by car is nbd, 35 min. Getting home is rough. Rush hour on the Beltway starts by 2:30 and lasts past 7:30. On this portion you don’t benefit much from the EZ Pass lanes because they end before the American Legion Bridge. The only thing they change is how you enter from Tyson’s. I usually go American Legion and exit immediately for Clara Barton. Some Days I’ll check Wayz and it’ll say to take Chain Bridge. That route is very slow because it’s a single lane on 123 past the GW Pkwy, as you go over the bridge, along Canal Rd., and up Arizona Ave. This time of year I can get home (11-ish miles) in a reasonable 40 min. Between Labor Day and Christmas it can take up to 70 minutes. Departure time has not mattered much for me; my return commute starts at 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. |
| No toll lanes. You’d go down to chain bridge and hang a right on chain bridge rd. It will take you right to Tyson’s. |
Only west of Arizona. |
| PP again: I’ve found that the Google Maps estimates are usually within 10 minutes. You can “dial in” the addresses and then adjust your departure time. It will also let you see public transit options. Do add the worst-case-scenario extra 10 minutes though. The algorithm can’t “see” the nightmare merge point; that the average speed in the right lane is fine, but the left lane is stopped; that an intersection always gets gridlocked; etc. |
