My apologies for the repost. I put this on the electronics forum yesterday but didn't get any responses.
I received a gift card from work that is enough to buy an Apple Watch, but I'm trying to determine the benefits. Honestly, having one more device to keep charged and updated (as well as more screen time) doesn't seem appealing, but so many folks I know love their Apple Watch. I think that the sleep and exercise tracker would be a great feature, but is it worth $399? What else do you use it for? Does it result in using your phone more - because that is something I definitely do not want. Right now I'm wearing an old school watch from H&M that cost me $10. Looking for reasons why I should buy the Apple Watch instead of a basic FitBit. I'm sure there are many things it does that I'm not thinking about. Would love to hear some feedback. Thanks! |
I love mine, but I'm an avid exerciser who uses Strava. You can record workouts on your watch. You can answer calls and/or decide to ignore them during exercising without pulling out your phone. I use mine as an alarm clock, to check weather and to make short replies to text messages. When using my phone as a GPS navigation system, it vibrates when I get close to a turn, and the next turn is shown on the watch. My battery life is excellent; I charge it for 10 minutes in the morning and need to put it on for an hour or so once a week. I can usually get two days of use (wearing while I sleep) before it's even close to he battery running low. I had the Fitbit smart watch and the iwatch is night and day better for everything except battery life. |

Another Apple Watch lover here! I got one as a gift from DH as a total surprise. it seemed like an unnecessary splurge at the time, but I love it! Get the version that will let you call without having your phone nearby. (This would be helpful on a run or while walking the dog.) I love that it counts steps, laps in the pool, can time things and answer random questions. I think it has cut down on my screen time for sure because I can just do a quick answer and then put it down; if I pulled out the phone, I might check something else or get more distracted. I don't have a sleep tracker on mine, but I totally want one!
Bottom line: if this watch broke today, I'd have to go out to buy a new one tomorrow. |

Is this you too? So in off topic, beauty and electronics. What's wrong with you?

| I used to scoff at people who had them and then a year ago read about the latest version having an app to monitor your heart, similar to an ekg. That got me interested since my dad died of a heart attack at 48. I use the ekg feature every couple of months, but the thing i really like is the ability to monitor exercise. I’m quite overweight and trying to turn that around, so that app helps me keep track. I also like that I don’t have to drag my phone around with me all day because I can get calls, txts, emails etc on my watch. |
| Ps it results in less screen time because it doesn’t really go online—no Facebook or instagram holes to go down when you check a text message. |
+1 |
| Allows you to never have any noise at all come from your phone. And cuts down on screen time. |

I adore mine! I can get a text without pulling out my phone which is convenient for meeting up for play dates and things.
I use the activity tracker all the time and have lost quite a bit of weight. I committed to completing the monthly fitness challenge as a New Years resolution and I’m still sticking to it! It’s based on current activity and this month is to walk 177 miles. I’m only 20 away from goal. |
| Op here. Many thanks for the feedback. I only posted in the electronics and off topics forums. The one in the beauty forum is someone else. Thanks again! |
| I resisted and thought it was just a waste of money. I have the latest version and I LOVE it. I wear it everyday. Track my sleep. Workouts. Fitness. Swim. I'm not all anxious when I leave my phone. It really is worth it. |
| Is there much of a reason to own one, if you don't care about the fitness/health apps? |
| Does the Apple watch let you do exercise coaching like the Fitbit ionic? |
