Hair salon - kids / curly

Anonymous
Anyone have recs for a hair salon / stylist who would cut curly hair for a reasonable fee?

Some background: My daughter has 3A hair. I've always cut it, but it's time she get a real haircut. I did take her to a salon once when she was late 2/early 3yo, but it was NOT a good cut. She walked out looking like a triangle. The stylist brushed out her hair (major no-no for curly hair) and then tried to cut it semi-wet. It may be a unicorn to find an economical place that will dry cut kids' hair, and if that is the case I may just take her to Oasis (a kids' cut there is $75 )

My other kid has straight hair and goes to Cartoon Cuts.

Look for a Deva stylist near you. If you get a junior stylist, you won't have to pay as much.

My son's hair is cut by a junior stylist that is Deva-trained and only charges $35. (For comparison, my Deva stylist charges $135.) Even though his is also a Deva cut, it is still considered a kids' haircut. They don't have to do as much for kids -- just a dry curly/Deva cut and follow with a spritz of water.

Even if you have to pay more for the cut, it is worth it to get a good one by a well-trained stylist -- especially if her hair is longish, she gets a good cut, and you use good products, it'll only need further attention maybe 2x/year.

Oasis in Rockville
Fiddleheads in DC

Yes to the Deva cut. Shell out the $ for the cut and for your child to learn how to take care of her curls. Buy the products on Amazon.

Thanks for the replies.

Any specific recommendations are welcome of stylists where people had a good experience.

I go to a deva salon myself so I'm familiar with the process/salon finder. I pay $160, and their kids cuts are $90 (similar to Oasis which is $75) so that is why I wanted to go somewhere else based on personal experience. Fiddleheads gets really mixed reviews, and many are bad enough that I decided not to go there myself.

I prefer a Ouidad cut to Devacurl. I go to Salon Sage in McLean. It’s $75, but worth it IMO. Other stylists not specializing in curls just butcher my hair.

I just took DD to New Wave Salon in Rockville. She’s 5, with curly hair. Mimi, who is a Deva stylist gave her a great cut and it was only $25 (I didn’t have her wash it after cutting).
