Anyone learn how to ice skate after 40?

If so, did you take a class or hire a coach? Would like to learn so I can ice skate during the holidays with my kids.

I see many, many adults learning to skate at Wheaton Ice Arena. Montgomery County has classes specifically for 18+ adults. I personally know two friends who took classes and learned as adults through county programs.

I took classes at Cabin John. I enjoyed them, and my skating improved -- I had learned how to skate as a kid, but only moving forward. I learned how to skate backward, do stops, and other very basic skills. I stopped lessons when it was time to learn how to jump, as I was too afraid of falling, but I did really enjoy the lessons while I was taking them.

I did buy myself a pair of ice skates, as I have hard to fit feet. That made a huge difference over the rental skates which hurt my feet so badly I couldn't skate. Of course they are gathering dust now but no reason to get rid of them to the extent we go ice skating for fun as a family once or twice a year.

I did! I learned as a very overweight (ok, obese) 42 year old. I’m not great at it, but I can spend a few hours with my family and not make a fool out of myself or end up at the ER.

I took lessons at Cabin John one summer so I could have fun skating with my children. Sign up for a class and enjoy!
