BCBS Coverage for IVF to avoid genetic disorder?

Anonymous
My spouse and I are both carriers for a genetic disorder. We have BCBS federal employee insurance. I know that BCBS does not cover IVF for infertility, but has anyone had success (or heard of) getting them to cover IVF to screen for an inherited genetic disorder? Thanks!

I’ll add on to that - or just PGD?

No insurance covers PGS testing. What state do you live in?

She's asking about PGD which is different from PGS and some insurances do cover it. My DC carefirst plan did since I had a 50 or greater chance of passing on my disorder. Though covered nothing else related to fertility.

Kaiser (federal) used to cover PGD back in the day when they offered IVF coverage. I'm not sure if they still do.

PP when did you get this covered by them? We are in the same situation with a 50% risk. Thinking perhaps getting signed up with them this year would save us a ton of money on PGD testing.

^ Last November, though I still have the same plan and it's still a benefit. Though it was a bit of a hassle to get the prior-auth needed. It did save a bunch, I believe out of pocket my PGD probe creation and one round of testing would have been a bit over 8k. I didn't buy the insurance just for that, but it was a nice surprise, especially since no other part of IVF was covered.
