What heartworm meds do you use for your dog? Also, what flea/tick meds do you use for your dog?
Looking for recommendations. I think Heartguard doesn't cover as much as some of the others, but looking for feedback on any experiences, advice for best dog meds? |
| I use Heartgard and a seresto collar currently and have had good results. I used Trifexis for a while, but my doggo had some issues with nausea while she was on it, so I changed back to the heartgard and added the collar. |
| my dog gets Nexguard (chewable) once a month for fleas/ticks and gets some sort of shot at the vet for heartworm. |

We do Heartguard for worms. Then we use Frontline topical for fleas and ticks. This season and last have been brutal for ticks, so we still get some that imbed, they just die within a day.
I’ve tried less expensive topicals, like Bio Spot and Sentry Pro. My dog spends a few weekends/yr hiking with me, and this always includes time in grass along wooded areas. These less expensive topicals always failed, and we needed to pluck dozens of ticks off. The dog also ended up with ehrlichiosis last year, which I don’t care to repeat. |
| monthly oral medication for both. Although even when we had a cat with fleas, I have never found a flea or a tick on the dog. Husky fur must provide a decent barrier because we go out in tick land. (even before getting the medication) |
| Frontline and Interceptor plus |
Strike that, it's K9 Advantix and Interceptor |
| NexGuard and TriHeart Plus. Both chewable and have never had a problem. |
| Heartgard and K9 Advantix plus. |
| heart guard and nextguard |
+1 |
| Frontline or Atvantrix but in 35 years of owning dogs I have never known one.single.person whose dog had heart worms. Didn’t treat my dogs for 15 years. No heart worms. I think it’s a scam myself |
It's not a scam, but probably just more prevalent in different areas of the country. We had a rescue dog from TN who needed to be treated twice - not an easy treatment, either. |
+2 - heartgard and nexgard the chewables. my dog thinks they're treats. |
| Heartgard, simparica, capstar |
