I want to get my 10yo son a larger bed in the next year or so. His room isn’t huge, so aesthetically a full size (double) would be ideal, but I’m wondering if I’ll regret that and wish I got him a queen for when he’s older. I’d like this bed to last until he moves out. What are your teens sleeping in? His dad is 6 feet and I’m only 5’4”; so far he’s on track to be about average height. Can teen boys sleep comfortably in a full size bed?
We got ours a full. If he needs bigger later we'll worry about it later.
My son will turn 18 this week and is 6’1”. He got a full-size bed when he was 15. He’s perfectly fine in it.
full size for our DS 14. He's 5'9" now, but his dad is 6'2", so expect him to grow bigger. Not changing out the bed.
My DS is 14 and his room is tiny so a twin bed is all he gets.
Plenty of college freshman 18 and 19 year olds are sleeping in twin or extra long twin beds. A full bed is plenty big. My husband and I used a full bed for the first three years of our marriage and DH is 5 11".
Yeah, I was just coming to say most will be sleeping in twin beds in college.
|
My nineteen year old is a tad under 6 feet. He still sleeps in a twin when he is home from school (which isn't often). If he were uncomfortable I would have replaced it, but he wasn't. I know because I asked.
His room isn't very big. Once we have the time and finish some other repairs on the house, we will sell his furniture and redo the room to be more like a guest room with a full size bed. We hate houseguests so a queen is unappealing. |
I debated this last year with my then 14yo. He's 6'2" but our house isn't large. I went with the queen and he loooooves it. I don't think the difference between a queen and full would have made a difference one way or another. On the one hand he probably would have been thrilled with the upgrade as long as it was a comfy mattress either way. On the other a couple extra inches in mattress size didn't really change the room layout or what else could fit in there. Lounging on his bed with a screen is a very popular activity no matter what the size!
We switched my 6 ft tall teen to a queen from a twin when he went to college. Honestly I think we preferred more floor space in his room.
Our 17 (almost 18) year old son is not incredibly tall, in the range of 5' 7" - 5' 8''. I'm 5' 11" and his mom is 5' so I imagine he's pretty close to his final height (but you never know). He still sleeps in a twin xl bed and he's quite comfortable with it.
My 5'10" 17 year old sleeps in a twin and finds it perfectly comfortable. Maybe he'll prefer the twin xl when he starts college next month, but I never considered getting him anything else.
My brother is now 6'4" but had a smaller room, so my parents got him an X-long twin.
My 13 year old is pushing 6', and is in a full size. He seems comfortable in it so far, but we'll see how much taller he gets.
I would go full. The only other consideration is that if this bed ever gets used for guests, a queen is much better for a couple.
