My almost 2 year old is scheduled to get his first H1N1 shot tomorrow, and my understanding (from the info they provided) is the type of vaccine they have is the Fluvirin multi-dose vial (by Novartis). They are administering shots to ages 6 months to 24 yrs. However, I just was reading about it and realized that brand only seems to be approved by FDA for 4 years and over. (Not sure why?).
Does anyone know if this is accurate? |
| I think you're right. It does say 4 and up. I'd call or ask them when you get there before your child gets the shot. They may be giving them half the dose, but that still seems weird. I do know CSL just did some fast-tracked FDA approval to allow kids to get their h1n1 vaccine. It was only approved for 18+ and then they said 6months and up now-- maybe it's that one? Which is a little odd too, but this whole thing is! |
Our ped was giving Novartis for 3 and up. |
Op -- can you please report back and let us know what they say? I am curious. |
| OP here- I ended up canceling because I felt it was a little strange. It's not approved for under 4, but that is what they were giving. It wasn't our pediatrician (and I'm sure I'm not understanding something)... I'm just going to a clinic on Monday instead! |
