Why are people so into this school? It is very expensive and not accredited!

I've posted the reasons here before and won't repeat the whole thing- My child is very happy there. The teachers are warm, nurturing, involved, and very experienced. The sense of community is wonderful. The kids learn from one another and there's a great focus on social skills and development rather than on rote academic skills. We love it and are thrilled to be there.

The cost is worth it for a great first school experience (I am not bargain hunting when it comes to education; if anything is worth spending money on it's this), and the accreditation does not concern me. Most of the other schools we considered (NCRC, St. John's, WIS, River, Children's House) are not accredited and cost about the same or more.

I don't think the fact that it is not accredited means anything much. I think most schoosls with mixed age classes are not NAEYC accredited. It seems like everyone who goes there likes it alot and it also seems like the director has a good reputation with private schools. Nothing more mysterious than that. Folks who are applying there may be applying to other expensive preschools (NCRC, River School, Aidan) so it must seem on par..and it must be affordable for them.

Moreover, the private elementary schools to which most of the Little Folks parents are applying know full well how good the school is and don't consider the lack of accredidation (case in point, the fact that the Little Folks children almost universally are accepted into Beauvoir, GDS, Sidwell Friends, and other great private schools in the DC area). Accreditation becomes more relevant if you are unable to observe the school, and you need some standardized measures to at least ensure some level of quality. In DC, the private schools are well informed of the wonderful education provided in Little Folks.

I didn't find it terribly impressive either (compared to St. John's and NCRC).

OP here. I just posted b/c I'm waiting for a letter and was wondering if anyone had received one yet or had any knowledge about specific dates.

I have two deadlines for other schools next week. I wish the schools coordinated their letters more.

maybe you can call and ask when they are sending letters because you have the other two deadlines. i doubt that would be a problem.
