Kindergerten at PGCPS

Anonymous
My first is going to Kindergarten and I just have so many questions.

He will be in uniform and the dress code policy does not specify what type of bookbag/lunchbox the kids can have. What has been your experience?

Do kids even bring lunches anymore? I know when I was in school, most of us only bought lunch when they were having something good.

Any recommendations for before/after care in Upper Marlboro that opens up before 7am and will provide transportation?

I would talk to current parents at that specific PGCPS and find out how the uniform policy is enforced. At our PGCPS all they really care about it blue/white shirt with collar and navy bottoms. They also have a 'no hoodie' policy that they strictly enforce. The policy specifies no cargo pants but my son wore them all last year. The official policy states the color of sweaters, shoes, socks, belts etc but they have never enforced that.

Most schools request that you don't have wheeled backpacks or shoes that light up.

My daughters almost always pack lunch. They don't get much time to eat and they don't want to have to stand in line. My son always buys lunch.

Does the school your child attend have before/aftercare on site? They usually open at 6:30.

I'm in pgcps but no uniform so can't help you with that. We do aftercare at the school. There is a policy on no wheeled bookbags. My picky eater brings his lunch and my adventurous eater buys. Kids still do both. You should feel free to call the school during the summer and ask your questions. The front office staff at our school is very sweet and they know everything.

I’m a K teacher. You can send in lunch but their time to eat is very limited. My main concern would to check with the class size as the county sets the class limit very high and teacher’s do NOT get an assistant.

Uniforms are enforced by the admin at the school, so check with them about that.

Most of your questions and concerns should be answered at the Kindergartion orientation. Check your school for the dates and times.
