Part-Time Nanny Share

Anonymous
I have a super flexible work situation and family that can support with childcare a couple of days a week.

I'm looking for part-time nanny share where we'd be able to drop LO off at like 9-10 am and pick up before three. Like 2-3 days a week.

I'm thinking this might be a good situation for a family with a baby and a LO or more in school, we could drop off after the kids are in school and pick up before nanny needs to leave for pick up.

How would you go about looking for a situation like this? Any ideas?

I don’t think you’ll find this.

You’re better off finding a mornings only preschool and doing that.

9 to 3 isn’t really part time (or mornings only preschool hours). There are kids in full day care that do 6 hours and typically the parents have to pay for the full day.

And three days is hard to find. I can’t imagine any other family wanting to put up with this.

I disagree with the other posters. I think it is going to be hard to find but I think there probably is a family out there that would love to share their nanny for a part of the day while an older child is at school. Our family did exactly that. We had a child in elementary school and a baby. We had a nanny we loved and wanted to keep but the cost was too much. We found a family that needed care 3 days a week during school hours. It worked great. They got the care they needed. We got to keep our nanny at a price we could afford. There were a lot of logistics to work out for things like school holidays and what to do if our older child was home sick from school but we managed. Once we had a third child we actually stayed with this same family and modified the schedule again. We had the nanny full time for 4 days and they used her all day one day a week.

I would put messages out on your neighborhood list serve. It doesn't hurt to ask around. If you frame it with the cost savings I think you will find a match.

We were in a share with a very similar situation for awhile (only left because our needs changed, but the other family found someone to replace us right away). Found that one right here on DCUM in the nanny forum.

By share you are implying that the nanny will also be watching another child and you and the other family would split the costs. Is that what you mean, or do you want a part time nanny?

I was available for the exact hours all year last year when my own kids were at school. I'd make an awesome nanny.

Interested in exploring either, thought I have a preference for the former.

This is something that could possibly work for us. I also have a flexible work schedule and am currently interviewing nannys to come to our home to care for LO who will be 3 months old in October when I return to work. We would consider a PT family to be included in our nanny share. I am new to this forum so am unsure how to connect offline to share personal information, but if you are interested in speaking more about this and exploring this option reply here and we will take it from there.
