If you hired a babysitter and came home a couple minutes late, would you expect to pay for the exact time worked or round down to the nearest 15 minutes since you sometimes round up? |
Couple minutes? You mean less than 2? Or exactly 2? |
Define a couple of minutes. |
I always round up. |
Always round up with a babysitter, unless you don’t want her to come back. |
Always round up. Every single time. Most people round to the next half hour. What does this have to do with a bank transfer? |
You came home late but want to round down? Question doesn’t address bank transfer...were you drinking while you were out? You sound confused. |
Please don’t be cheap with the people who care for your children. It’s not a good look.
Round up. Always. |
Pay the babysitter in cash.
Round up. |
OP here : I mean 2 or 3 minutes. |
OP here : I am the babysitter. The family pays by bank transfer because this is what they prefer. I babysat for them a couple of weeks ago and they underpaid me by 5 or 6 dollars. Since I hadn"t looked at the actual time they came home and it was really late, I let it go.
This time, they underpaid me by only a dollar. They owed me a certain amount by 11 pm and came home past that. I texted the mom by text about it since it was the second time in a row. She replied that she usually pays in 15 minute increments so if maybe they came home a little late this time (she admitted that she hadn't looked at the actual time), she would round up next time. End of discussion. |
OP here : I mentioned the method of payment because it is obviously easier to pay the exact amount by bank transfer than it is by cash. |
So if you feel cheated don’t sit for them again. 2 minutes isn’t a big deal. Their watch might have said 11 exactly. $5-6 is a bigger deal. |
Two minutes every time she sits can add up to an hour. You should tell her this. Bull to 15 minute increments! Being late is unacceptable and in future tell her that you will be charging $2.00/per late minute. Day care charges $5.00/minute. If I were you, I would just stop sitting for her. Inexcusable and cheap on her part. |
Just don’t work for them again. I hate haggling over babysitting money.
When I was young, if someone was cheap, I wouldn’t accept their job. Now, as a parent, I almost always round up. However, have there been a couple times when I came home late, tipsy, and paid a dollar or two short? For sure! Would it be weird if my babysitter texted me to tell me that? Lol, yes! I would pay them and not use them again. I think the 15 min increment is weird too |
