Has anyone had to get medical clearance from their obgyn or pcp regarding ivf treatment? Which dr performed for you obgyn or primary care?
I'm turning 45 and although I am in a shared risk problem they are telling me that I need medical clearance from my obgyn for treatment and clearance. They said they do this for everyone turning 45. I emailed my obgyn and she said that is something from my primary care dr to do. My next physical is not until November and I do not want to wait that long. I feel that my pcp will say that is something for my gyn to do. It's interesting that I've spent so much of my life at the clinic this year and all the sudden due to my birthday, I have to get medical clearance. Thanks |
| Call your PCP's office and ask if this is something they can do, then make an appt for asap. |
| Also, if you didn't have to and were 45 can you name your clinic? Thanks |
| You should be seeing a fetal-maternal medicine specialist for preconception counseling if you are 45. The clinic is probably asking you to do a mfm consult. That specialist will ask you about your medical history and records too. |

My primary care doc did something like this for me. Just moved up my physical. It was at One Medical.
I have to say now that I'm actually pregnant, I'm so glad I got all of the routine medical things done pre-IVF. I'd also suggest knocking out a mammogram if you'll be due for one soon and a dentist appointment right before embryo transfer. Dermatologist skin check too if it's something you do regularly. The MFM preconception appointment suggestion is a good one too. There's so much to think about health-wise in pregnancy, it's nice to know that all of the non-pregnancy parts of your health are in good shape and can be set aside for a bit. |
| My doc wanted a mammogram before fertility drugs if you were 40+ or had a positive family history for breast or ovarian cancer. Could that be part of what they’re looking for? Clarify and then just arrange a physical if that’s all they’re looking for. You may have to pay out of pocket, but that’s the “worst” of it. Reasonably priced physicals at CVS Minute Clinic if you want to go that route. |
| Thanks I’ve had 6 ivf s and it just seems strange to me since I’ve been getting my yearly physicals and they see me all the time. I feel like they just want to make things difficult since I’m blowing through shared risk. I was ready for a transfer a couple days ago and had nothing to transfer. |
