Starting IVF - did your doctor make you use birth control?

Anonymous
I am new to IVF and wanted to see how common it is to use BCP or not as part of the protocol and any anecdotes about how many eggs retrieved/fertilized/made to blast. Thanks!

I think it’s very common. I took it, but it over-suppressed me. (I think that’s uncommon.)

I did a bunch of times. It's really common at least years ago when I took it. Eggs retrieved, fertilized, made to blast depends on your body and protocol and varies widely. Good luck.

Yes. 40 years old. I had responded very well to IUI meds so was given a low dosage of IVF drugs, and I did not produce enough follicles to proceed with IFV given that we paid OOP. Second round with slightly higher dose resulted in a better response, but I am not sure there is much of a correlation between the use of BCP and the outcome of IVF.
Good luck!

I did 2 IVF's with OCP's and had lousy response, switched clinics and new RE does not use OCP's....13 eggs, 7 blasts, and 4 normal embryos!!!!

GW did not have birth control as part of my protocol. SG did.

CCRM often does estrace priming.

SGF uses OCP's to control their schedule and it is often to the patients disadvantage.

I didn’t, but I did natural cycle ivf.

what's your diagnosis? I was DOR and BC pills shut down my system. I changed doctors and used estrace priming and had fantastic responses.

I used an estrogen patch - not bcp - at SG

So then it's not relevant.

Had good experience with estrace priming as well.
