Miscarriage Support Suggestions

Anonymous
A dear friend has just miscarried pretty far into the pregnancy. Other than offering to watch their first child and making food for them, does anyone else have any suggestions for anything I can do to help? Thanks.

Child care and food are perfect gestures. You could also invite your friend for a mom's night out...movie or drinks or whatever would be comforting and distracting. Offer an opening to talk about how she's coping, without being pushy.

You are a good friend.

How far along was she? If very far, I wouldn't use the term "miscarriage" unless she does. Losing a child at 7 months is harder than at 1 month, although of course both can be very hard, and some people find the word "miscarriage" to not describe what has happened when they have lost a baby that would have been viable.

Agree with PP, after 20 weeks, I think it is usually called stllbirth.

I had a friend who lost a full term baby. A group of us went in and bought the family a flowering tree and a plaque. I also found a website that catered to pregnancy/ early childhood loss and bought her a memory box from them.

I have another friend who lost her baby during the late 2nd, early 3rd trimester. She lost the baby before I knew her. She put together a shadow box with mementos from her pregnancy -- i.e., sonogram picture, etc.
