Looking to talk with some Janey and AU Park non-Janey Parents

Anonymous
my wife and I are familiar with the area, but want to talk with some parents who chose, and did not chose, the Janey School. Any takers?

We are in bounds for Janey and my child will start Pre-K next year. We are exploring other public and private alternatives. The biggest reason is the construction that is scheduled. I do not believe that trying to learn while there are major renovations is the best place to be. I have problems focusing with the banging going on the floor above my office - I could not imagine what it would be like for a young child. In addition, I am concerned from a health POV regarding what substances might be released into the air that the children will be breathing.

Until there is a clear plan for when the construction will start and what plans are put in place to ensure the children are safe, I need to look at other alternatives.

Just an FYI, you should be preparing because there is also no guarantee that your child will win the lottery. Over one third of the in-boundary pre-K lottery applicants for Janney last year did not succeed in the lottery. I think in the end, perhaps 3 children moved off the waiting list.

Well, I think by the time the late March/early April deadline comes for taking a pre-K slot, we should know more about how the construction is going.

I have 0 expectation of winning the lottery for Janney (although in theory my odds are about 60+%). We are currently at a pre-school where we would be more than OK with continuing for another year - and even if we got into Janney, I would need to weigh a lot of factors before making my decision.

We are also exploring private, OOB and Charters.

We got into Janney and also into two other highly desirable charters.

We chose Janney :
- the community is incredible
- we love that Janney is truly a neighborhood school
- the convenience
- the after care
and financially what's not to love ?

My son is thriving, learning lots socially and "academically", happier than he was at the preschool he previously attended (~$1600/month).

I am an AU park and Janney parent. We explored lots of privates (Concord Hill, NPS, Sheridan, River and others) and we chose Janney in the end. We have a great child/teacher ratio, an amazing curriculum and so far we adore our dc's child. I don't know whether all families feel this way but I feel like we really lucked out. Academically its top notch, our child is getting amazing attention, we have frequent communication with teachers and the community is just a bonus.
