I am going to have to buy a new car this year. I want the best deal. Is December the best time to go car shopping? I am not looking for the latest and greatest - the newest model. I would be happy with last year's model. And where would I get the best deals? I'm in MD. I assume I can get a better deal further out like Thurmont?

Now.
It is end of the second quarter. Today and tomorrow are the best days out of the whole entire year. The end of the year deals are not as great unless you are buying last year's model and the new came out already. Most brands already released or are about to release 2020 models in like two months so the 2019 are now being pushed out of the door with passion. If you wait till winter you will buy car for more or the same at best if you are lucky and you can already drive a new car now. |
| Go to cars.com and cargurus.com and see what you should pay for the car, this is starting point for negotiating, you can do better then the lowest prices listed. |
But wouldn't dealerships be more desperate to get rid of the remaining last year's inventory at the end of the year rather than now? The way I see it, it's like a store closing sale where the longer you wait, the deeper the discount. Yes, the pickings will be slimmer, but like I said, I'm not looking for the latest and greatest. |

The end of the model year is NOW! 2020's are in / or coming in soon. They are trying to clear out 2019s - so they can make room for the new cars.
Last year there was a specific model / features we were looking for in August and could not find it anywhere. We live in DC and the closest was Harrisburg PA. We decided to get something else. |
No, Because by then they don't have many cars left, they only have very few and they dont' need to rush, people will by them out anyway with the little incentives form Manufacturers that will not be higher then now and now you have tons of cars to choose from. Do as you wish, just mark my words. I been through this, was thinking like you and turned there was nothing to buy and I wasted 6 months so I waited another six to the next end of June See, now they have tons of cars so they really need to move them. While around Christmas lots of people buy cars for Chrismas for themselves and their loved ones and kids, this year make and last.. and when the dealership has lots of sales and traffic, they are not so anxious to make a deal. Again. Remember what I told you
If I were you I would just to do my research, go to the showroom and try to make a deal on a car now and see if you like it. On a car that cost 40K you should be able to get 10K or so now, try to get it in Decemer January. Good luck. |

You don't need to take my word for this..
You can use the price graph on cargurus.com for your car and see how the price fluctuates through the year, this can help you to make a right decision. Use the calendar on the left to plot any dates you want to see how it changes. This is for Honda as an example https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/price-trends/Honda-m6 Google cargurus price trend Mazda .. or any other car you want to find. |

Oh and put specific model then you get for some year models next to current .. like this:
This is for Mercedes GLE, you got this year and other years so you can easily compare and see what happens when a new model comes out what happens to the prices of the current model and also when is price pick and low.. still you can change dates to whatever you want for a given car.. https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/price-trends/Mercedes-Benz-GLE-Class-d2317 |
| The end of the model year is the best (July/August) is the best, but you do have to be willing to take what they have in terms of features/colors etc. I bought my car in August and I got an excellent price, but it wasn’t my preferred color. |
| Tysons Audi is offering some 9.5K off on New Audi 7 or something like that.. |
