Impact scores are out

For DCPS teachers—how did you do?

Seriously? Even if you think the system is bad, why on earth would you ask teachers to share their performance evaluations.

How was your annual review OP?

I need to wait for IVA (PARCC scores) but the range they gave me could be anywhere from minimally effective to highly effective.

Effective-18 points from Highly Effective (Bonus range) but no surprise there. Since I’m not IVA, I can calculate my score. Also no surprise as the system is so subjective, the administrator can skew your scores either way. If they don’t like you, you’re minimally effective. If they love you, you’re highly effective. If they don’t feel strongly about you one way or another, you’re effective.

362, highly effective.
I played the game right. I started in bottom 40. Took the 20k bonuses & lift ladder steps. Now I am on easy street with a 5 star (well supported & funded) school.
The bonus isn’t so great anymore- but my base salary is high enough that it doesn’t matter.

There are well supported and funded schools in DCPS?

Waiting for IVA. From minimally effective to highly effective. IVA scores come out end of July or start of August.

I’m the PP with the same range. I don’t remember the range being so wide last year, when I ended up solidly effective (previous two years non-IVA were highly effective by a wide margin). If I’m anything less than effective I think I’ll bail on the school, even though it will likely be very late notice for them. Too risky if you drop from developing to minimally effective, or get minimally effective two years in a row. It seems to all be a gamble. I’ll go back to a non-IVA position at a different school.

Yup. But they don’t have large bonuses. Which now only go to ward 7&8 schools anyway.

Same goes for other industries unfortunately.

Np, I agree. The nuance with dcps is that you are only eligible for the mega bonus if you work in the shitty schools. So to put up with that BS & not get it. Why?

I work at a highly regarded school and think Impact is unfair to those who teach in high poverty schools- I am at a distinct advantage in several impact categories, particularly anything involving behavior management. The students at my school just do not have nearly the same behavior issues as other schools. I could give them worksheets all class (I don't) and they would still generally behave.

No, they now only go to schools designated as “1 Star” schools by OSSE.
