Driving to Dulles this afternoon - how does 66 work in the afternoon?

Anonymous
I need to be at Dulles around 4.

I work downtown and typically would get on 66 and the Dulles express lane - but I have not done this since the new 66 toll road inside the beltway.

Can I just get on 66 at 3PM - and pay the toll?

Yes. Unless you're carpooling with 2+ people, all cars now have to pay the HOV toll in the afternoon. There's no longer an exemption for single drivers bound for Dulles.

where in down town are you coming from. taking canal road to chain bridge through mclean and getting on the non toll portion of Dulles might be quicker.

@ 3pm canal road goes both lanes out bound and the drive on 123 is pretty consistent G-town to vienna downtown is about 30-35 min

66 is such a crap shoot, specially on a Friday, i will start slowing around 2pm..

thanks for this tip. I am leaving from near Cap One Areana. I might zig across from NY Ave to to Virginia Ave - pick up Whitehurst and take Canel per your recommendation.

Thanks

from where you are, you could always take constitution jump across the TR bridge and then bail off onto GWP to 123 to dulles.

check with google maps/traffic before you hit the road. 66 always seems to back up near glebe road through to the 267 split.

good luck
