I have FINALLY broken through a wall with DH -- we are NOT going to visit his mother in Florida for spring break this year! First time in 10 years! Woohoo!
BUT, now I have to pick someplace else for us to go. Has to be warm/sunny, beach would be nice but not an absolute necessity if there's a fun pool, reasonably affordable, and reasonable travel from DC (flying is ok but prefer a short-ish flight). Kids ages range from 9-5 and they are pretty active. They'd be engaged by a fun resort environment, nature stuff, beach/water activities, etc. Hubby likes to eat out on vacation (esp. fresh seafood, etc.) so we'd need some restaurant options. I'm thinking some kind of all-inclusive island resort locale with kids' activities and entertainment. But we have never done that before and I don't know where to start! |
| How about Florida? only 2 hours flight from DC, nice and warm, great beaches... |
Seriously???

I know you said you weren't doing FL but is there a different part of FL you could do, it is a big state.
My suggestions would be Hilton Head or Myrtle Beach, Atlanta (no beach but plenty to do) or gulf coast of TX. |
I understand what you mean, but I can't say "Sorry, MIL, we're coming to FL, but not your part - we'll be staying 2 hrs away." She's in south FL, which is very nice, warm, close to the beach, she has a pool, etc. It would be really awkward to do essentially the same thing but an hour or two away from her. There's nothing wrong with spending a week with her; it's a very nice place to go, but I'm just SO sick of it - we do it every Christmas and every Spring Break - EVERY YEAR. And we only take 3 weeks of vacation per year - the 3rd week is in August, when we stay at a rental place at the beach in NJ or DE with - guess who - my MIL! I love her, but enough is enough. We need a vacation with just our family, and to someplace a little different. So - I really have to plan a spring break trip to someplace ELSE (not FL) if I'm going to have any hope of getting away with this . . . . |
| And we have been to Hilton Head and Myrtle Beach before - those are both great suggestions. I will look into that! |

Spring Break: Too early in the year for Hilton Head or Myrtle Beach. You need to go to the Bahamas. Cheap airfare available, lots of resorts to choose from. That's your best bet.

| Mexico - Rivera Maya hotel (maybe an all-inclusive). I am in the same boat trying to research a trip for our family of 6 with the same sort of ages. I am thinking Dominican Republic Punta Cana ... any suggestions for a resort there? |
| How about Puerto Rico? |
| Or a cruise, either in the caribbean or to nowhere. |
| There are some NICE cruises out of Baltimore! Look into them! No flying! |
Yes, I've heard Puerto Rico is wonderful! Can I come?
|
| Southern CA. It's a flight but usually a cheap one. You can do beaches, resorts, Disneyland, legoland, etc. |
| I'd do Charleston, not Hilton Head or Myrtle Beach. If you want to stay at a beach resort do Kiawah or Wild Dunes. Could pop into city to take in kid-fun cultural activities and great restaurants! (Wild Dunes is closer to downtown.) |
| maybe paradise island nassau? or beaches in jamaica? |
