Does anyone have any recommendations for how I could possibly become a surrogate if I've never had kids? I'm 29 and very healthy, and I'd like to look into doing this, but I've heard people say that one of the prerequisites to becoming a surrogate is that you need to have already given birth. Is that right? I can't imagine that every surrogate out there has had children before. In fact, I knew a couple that asked a close friend, and she had never had kids, and she managed to do it. So is this a law, or just a rule for some agencies? What if I didn't work through one?
Thanks! If you have any information about this that you'd rather send to me in e - mail, please send to: dc.gradgirl [at] yahoo dot com. |

There are several surrogacy information websites. Do a search.
I would suggest contacting a reputable surrogacy attorney and asking a couple of questions. |
| We are currently expecting via a surrogate. It is a very expensive process and I would not be willing to go with someone who is not a "proven" carrier and I don't think many intended parents would risk it either. Just my opinion though. |
Do you mind sharing a ball park figure? |
you can definitely expect to spend b/w $50-$80k. I had a few problems because both my first surro and egg donor were rejected by the clinic so I lost alot of $$ for nothing! Depending on how many surros you go through and how many cycles it takes before the surro falls pregnant, the cost can really sky rocket. I have heard I'd some people spending as much as $100k because of failed cycles, m/c etc. Then again some people are lucky and land a perfect surro who gets pregnant the first time and pay nearer the lower end of the scale. It's not just the surro's compensation, but also all the medical, travel and other sundry expenses that really add up. |
