How to control children cell phone screen activity? |
No internet access? It’s all a HUGE problem. |
No. Games do not make one violent. |
You may speak for yourself, and maybe your own kids. That’s it, thanks. |
Spend more time with your children. |
Ok. Then you figure out why your kids are violent. Mine are not and play games. Clearly your violent children need help. Hope you find that on this board. Or extensive therapy. |
What's so complicated about walking up to your kid and taking their phone away? |
I thought this was going to be a post to recent research.
The last research I read (which was probably a decade ago) indicated that male children under a certain age (maybe 8?) saw the greatest effects from viewing violence and that the effects extended even to “violence” that we consider socially acceptable, like NFL games. No effect was seen in female subjects. That was one study that I thought was somewhat interesting. Would love to see more research on this. There’s also some research showing some causal link between some types of video games and certain issues with attention/impulse control, which can certainly also correlate with violent behavior. Again, effect seems more pronounced with male children. |
We don’t make time for violent video games. Why do you? |
It might help if you could be more specific about what you're asking. Are your children purchasing cell phones for themselves without your knowledge? Or are you allowing them to use phones you have purchased without first establishing rules for their use? It's not clear from your post why, as their parent, you can't just take the phone away from them if you think it's causing a problem. Or are you talking about someone else's children? |
I have a cookie for you, oh special one. |
Citation OP? Or just fear mongering for the heck of it?
What parent is letting a child under 5 play these games? |
As an elementary teacher who regularly has students who are allowed to play violent video games, I will tell you it absolutely reflects in their behavior.
It’s very sad, and terribly irresponsible of these parents, who think their decision has no bearing on the lives of others. |
I think you are mistaking the effects of lax parenting for the effects of playing video games. |
You just bring your own biases. I bet you do not like the students who you think play video games. |
