We are TTC number one - and have tried for 8.5 months now without any sign of a BFP. We are both 30 and had our labs done. My HSG showed clear tubes and only slightly high TSH at 2.7 but already taking synthroid to address. AMH is good at 3+. DH has fine stats but his morphology is low at 2% and 66% motility with good concentration
The reason we want to move on without ART is because I might be leaving my current job in the near future and I would like to take advantage of the good insurance coverage for fertility. Are we being overly aggressive with starting IVF given our age and relatively short amount of time spent TTC? Has anyone regretted starting IVF too soon? |
| I jumped right to IVF and don’t regret it. IUI’s success rate is only 10-15%, as I recall, so I bypassed it. |
| No. I jumped to it at a younger age. Do it now while you have coverage |
thanks for sharing. if I may ask further what was your outcome in terms of eggs retrieved and embryos that made to blast? |
| Will your insurance company allow that? At 40, mine made me try IUI three times before they’d cover any IVF services. |
This. What makes you think your insurance will cover IVF right now, especially since your tubes are clear? |
| Have your dh take Fertilaid for Men. It’s a supplement that could help improve his morphology. |
| I did the same thing and also for insurance. Don’t regret it one bit. BFP first try and have embryos banked |
Some do. Mine did. Just had to be recommended by the doctor. |
Was the diagnosis male infertility? |
OP here. My insurance covers IVF even before IUI. I recognize how lucky I am but at the same time I may not be at this job much longer so I figure why not maximize the benefit the most I can and jump straight to IVF. DH was never formally diagnosed with male factor but the morphology is the only potential issue from his side that we are aware of. But I am hesitant to jump to IVF so soon because i’m scared we won’t be successful and that afterwards I would just be extremely discouraged from trying anymore at all. I also wonder if a failed IVF will impair my fertility permanently and preclude me from a natural pregnancy in the future. |
Nope, not something that happens. |
What is this thinking based on? Why would you say this? |
You’re way more likely to be unsuccessful using IUI. One of the main reasons I jumped to IVF was because I worried that failed IUIs would affect me too much. Statistically IUIs are way way less likely to work. It’s great if you’re someone who gets lucky, but I didn’t want to take a chance. Ask your doctor if “you want to get pregnant and money is no object, what would you do - IUI or IVF.” Guarantee they will tell you IVF. A lot of women get started on IUI because they are reluctant to have any treatments and/or the cost. |
No. It didn’t matter. Doctor could recommend IUI or IVF. He said IVF. IVF was covered. |
