Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)

Search sure isn't pulling it up, if so.
We live in what appears to be a good district in PWC (Montclair -- Henderson Elementary), at least as far as elementary goes. Not sure about middle, high school looks decent but I think we'll probably switch to private at that point. Anyone out this far still on this forum? 8) |

Hm, I guess I cut myself off there.
I was going to ask if anyone has experience in this area, with these schools. We are also looking at some privates and a Montessori, but I'm just not sure what exactly to look for as far as a public goes. |

3 years ago we thought about moving out to a larger home in PWC. I looked at census data and stopped. Arlington has 60+% of the population that is age 25 + with college degrees, PWC had about 30%. I took that as a statement of the value of education of the residents.

Yeah, it is 50% here in Montclair -- mostly military, lots of officers and the like. Very nice family centered neighborhood.
It varies a lot by specific location I'd imagine, unlike Fairfax/MC where even the worst are pretty good from what I understand. |
| Oh, hm, actually that appears to be including Dumfries as well, so the percentage is likely significantly higher. |
This is a really bitchy response. OP didn't ask why you didn't move to PWC. |
| You are in a good area for public. There aren't really any good private schools near you. The one mont. school is semi at best. The private High school is good though. |

I grew up in Montclair, but it was so long ago that four new high schools have been built since then. It really is a nice area and the schools may not be stellar, but certainly are solid.
When I was middle school age, we went to Graham Park, down in Triangle. It was a very diverse socioeconomic student body back then, and I can't' imagine that's changed much. Does Montclair still go there? PWC schools (especially the new ones) are pretty good -- a lot of the teachers I had moved on to the new/better schools when they opened. The only complaint I've heard (from my mother who used to work at WoodbridgeHS) is that she didn't believe the specialty programs at the various schools really worked well. |
