Caffeine

How many of you have cut back on or cut out caffeine when TTC? Were you advised to do so by a doctor? I usually drink 3 small cups of coffee a day, which my doctor said was fine, but I live in a country where people drink a lot of coffee. I'm curious to hear other peoples' perspectives on caffeine. Thanks in advance!

During the course of trying to get pregnant (3 years), then the pregnancy itself, I saw an OB, 2 different REs, and midwives. All of them told me to limit caffeine consumption to no more than 2 drinks per day. I was never told to cut it out completely.

I’ve cut it out (in drinks, that is) completely. Multiple REs, OBs and GYNs suggested at the very least limiting, as pp said

Switched to decaf without any issues. It was all about flavor not the buzz.

also... I would not rely on what people tell you this way or another because it is not them but you who will have to live with the consequences of any kind. I don't know if there is one proof this way or that way. But I would assume that the new born's forming cells and super delicate blood system can be hugely influenced by amount of blood and blood pressure that is caused by caffeine. I would not risk it, I have not risk it.
There is a lot one can do to prevent things from happening or risk things to happen but once they happen there is either little that can be done to reverse the problem or there are huge consequences and huge human and financial cost. Caffeine is a powerful thing. I would stay away, I did stay away. Decaf is super easy as you still have the same flavor and as for the rest, you will have enough hormones. Coffee makes hormonal effect on emotions worse. This is one little bonus of cutting off, you won't be as affected by hormones as you will by hormones plus caffeine.
It is like perfect storm.

OP you should not rely on people who clearly have no scientific background, such as this PP. There is a ton of peer reviewed research on the effects of caffeine consumption on fertility and outcomes, ranging from birthweight to cognitive abilities, in the offspring. Pubmed.gov is a good place to find it. You can search by keyword if you are concerned that your doctor is not up to date on the latest research.

OP: I'm sticking to my usual 8oz of caffeine in the morning, which I've read is a safe amount even when pregnant. I've only just started trying, so we'll see how that goes.

Would also be interested to hear if anyone knows if there's any reason for my husband to cut back on his caffeine intake, too. He consumes at least three times as much as me.
