Ear piercing what do I need to know?

Anonymous
My almost 4 year old has been asking. Considering taking her to a piercing studio (Craig Pokes U). If you have done it around this age, what do I need to know and expect? Also, do I buy the first earrings there or bring my own? If you bought elsewhere, where and what kind did you get?
TIA!

Buy them there, they will have a good selection, be sterile and high quality.
If it's an option, pay extra to have two piercers do it simultaneously.

Craig pokes U is great!! They did an excellent job of explaining their process and it doesn't hurt barely at all. They put in piercing earrings there so don't bring your own.

I got my ears pierced for my fifth birthday. My mom told me that it was my choice but I should know that it will hurt and I will have to keep them clean and take care of them. Obviously it made a big impression on me and I still think of it as a really good way to give me an opportunity to be brave and make a grown up decision. Still pierced.

Also did CPU with my 7yo daughter and they were fantastic. Explained the process very clearly and made sure she was in charge of the decision.

Poked my kids ears when they were a month old. The pediatrician did it. He marked the ears, we checked if the marked spot was okay and we brought our own earrings.

FYI - we got my 6 year olds ears pierced. After 7 months of doing fine my cousin told me of her horror story for her DD. After over a year of having her ears pierced she didn’t change them for a period of time. When her dd went to change then she discovered that the skin had completely grown over the earring back. She had to go to Mass eye and ear to surgically remove the backs.

I freaked, called my DD over and low and behold - the same thing had started to happen. Happily we were at my family reunion filled with medical personnel. Two nurses grabbed ice, needles and thread (to loop through the back of the earring back) and a handful of popsicles and were able to work together to get it out.

So - long story short - ALWAYS check the backs. Small loops are better.

What?? I have never in my life heard of this happening. Did you get them pierced at the mall or something?
